| cocktail party is an ongoing research project exploring the possibilities of sound sources interacting across space. The completed installation involves styrofoam wigmakers' heads with speakers and microphones, allowing them to hear and participate in sonic dialogues patterned after conversation and conventional human modes of behavior, including listening, repeating, interrupting, storytelling, laughing. Some are shy, others outgoing. Many speak different languages. | Some stream live international radio, others quietly discourse on interesting subjects, and others just parrot what snippets pass them by. The installation is designed to be entertaining and actually engage real visitors, who can attempt conversations with the heads, who will store up the material and save it for later use, or simply relay it across the room so conventional rules of participation and conversation are subverted. |
